The 28th BATIMATEC International Exhibition was held at the SAFEX Exhibition Centre in Algiers from May 3 to 7, 2026. The event recorded a historic participation level of 950 Algerian and international companies across construction, building materials and public works.
Although BATIMATEC did not rely on a single global manufacturing slogan, the defining theme of the 2026 edition was clear: stronger local industrial capability. Official discussions emphasized a “100% Algerian” housing ambition, greater participation by startups, digitalization, energy efficiency and the use of advanced local materials. For equipment suppliers, this points to a market that is moving beyond importing finished products and toward building more value inside Algeria.
Qingdao C&C and the Mingwen manufacturing base joined the exhibition to discuss production solutions for valves, pipe fittings, faucets and related fluid-control components. We presented two important capabilities: multi-station machining through rotary transfer equipment and customized automation for assembly, inspection and testing.
BATIMATEC connected our team with manufacturers considering how to build more production value locally.
Construction demand creates a much wider industrial chain than buildings alone. Water systems, HVAC, gas distribution, sanitary products and infrastructure all require large quantities of valves, fittings, connectors and control components. When these products are imported as finished goods, local companies have limited control over lead time, customization and supply continuity.
Local manufacturing can improve that position, but only when three capabilities develop together: reliable component supply, repeatable production processes and technical service. Purchasing an advanced machine without tooling support, maintenance planning or operator training does not create industrial independence. It can create a new dependency.
Our main reflection after BATIMATEC is therefore that localization should be measured by capability, not by equipment count. Can the factory control quality? Can it recover from a fault? Can it source wear parts? Can it train new operators? Can the process adapt as the local market grows? These questions should shape automation decisions from the beginning.
Valve and fitting families may look similar, but differences in material, casting or forging quality, thread standard, sealing geometry and tolerance can change the complete machining plan. A meaningful proposal requires drawings, blank samples, annual volume and the current process—not only a product name.
For this reason, we first define datums, operations, station balance, clamping and inspection. Only then do we select the machine configuration. This reduces the risk of applying a standard solution to a non-standard production problem.
For many developing production environments, gradual automation is more sustainable than jumping immediately to a fully connected line. A manufacturer may begin by integrating multiple machining operations, then add automatic loading, and later automate assembly or testing as volume stabilizes.
This staged approach protects investment and helps the operating team build skills. It also makes it easier to identify the real bottleneck before committing to the next step.
International equipment projects succeed when technical communication is continuous. Manuals and spare-parts lists are necessary, but they are not enough. The customer also needs process explanations, clear acceptance criteria, training and a practical support route after installation.
Mingwen is the equipment manufacturing base, responsible for engineering, manufacturing and validation. Qingdao C&C is Mingwen's designated export company and international business department, coordinating overseas requirements, documentation, logistics and after-sales communication. We see this division of responsibilities as part of the solution itself.
Our rotary transfer machines can integrate several operations for suitable high-volume valve bodies and fittings. A component is clamped and indexed through stations configured for drilling, boring, tapping, turning or sealing-surface machining. Reducing repeated handling can improve flow and reduce positioning variation between separate operations.
However, a machined body is not yet a finished valve. Downstream production may require seal or O-ring installation, pressing, screwdriving, torque control, marking, leak testing and final inspection. Our automated assembly equipment is customized around the bill of materials, assembly sequence and quality criteria.
For Algeria's localization ambitions, this connection is important. Machining adds value locally; assembly and testing make that value verifiable. Together they support a more complete manufacturing capability rather than a single isolated process.
BATIMATEC 2026 showed an industry with strong ambitions for national production, innovation and technology adoption. The opportunity is substantial, but the most durable progress will come from solutions suited to local operating conditions.
For us, this means avoiding one-size-fits-all automation. Energy conditions, operator experience, product variety, maintenance resources and local standards all influence the right design. A successful line should be productive on commissioning day and still understandable and serviceable years later.
We also believe customer relationships in North Africa must be developed for the long term. A technical supplier should listen before proposing, explain trade-offs honestly and support the factory as its production capability matures.
